| 19 November 2009 Staff at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust who have gone above and beyond the call of duty have been rewarded for their outstanding commitment and contribution at a special ceremony. Professor David Rhind, Chairman of the Trust, presented staff with the Chairman’s Awards for Excellence at a ceremony held in the Lecture Theatre, Education Centre, St Mary’s Hospital on Friday 13 November. Twelve individuals and seven teams were rewarded with Awards for Excellence before the Chairman presented three additional awards to staff who have committed 40 years of service to the Trust. Staff were nominated for the awards by colleagues who believe they have made an outstanding contribution to the Trust in the work that they do. From these nominations the winners were chosen by the Chairman and Chief Executive. The awards are given annually to both individuals and groups. Individual award winners are presented with an engraved crystal bowl and a £200 special payment. Group winners are presented with a plaque to display in their department and a cheque for £750. Professor David Rhind, Chairman of the Trust said of the awards: “Portsmouth Hospitals are renowned for their high levels of care given to all patients, and these awards reflect a cross section of all those talented people who contribute to the continuing success of Portsmouth Hospitals. “I am delighted to award these talented individuals and teams with the recognition they deserve for their tireless efforts.”
